WORKSHOPS, PLENARIES, ON A RANGE OF HUMAN RTS CONCERNS—STARTING IN REID CASTLE ON THE MANHATTANVILLE COLLEGE CAMPUS.




….AND AT 7:30PM, IN THE NEW STUDENT ACTIVITIES BUILDING, HEAR THE REMARKABLE AND COURAGEOUS FR. MICHAEL LAPSLEY, OF CAPETOWN, SOUTH AFRICA.

AS AN ACTIVE ANTI-APARTHEID SUPPORTER OF THE ANC (THE AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS), HE RECEIVED A LETTER BOMB WHICH DESTROYED HIS HANDS, AN EYE AND OTHER SERIOUS INJURIES. HE SURVIVED TO WORK WITH THE TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION AND REV DESMOND TUTU, AND THEN FOUND HIS INSTITUTE FOR HEALING OF MEMORIES, AND SPEAKS AND DOES WORKSHOPS ALL OVER THE WORLD.

Francis Ole Sakuda is part of a tour of people from Kenya to talk about Maasai cultural practices, human rights and the rapid environmental changes that confront the Maasai of Kenya today. He has an M.A. in International relations.
