EARTH DAY PROGRAMS!

The Connie Hogarth Center for Social Action, the Black Student Union and the Duchesne Center  offer:

An Earth Day Program,  on Tues. April 23rd, 2013:

3:30pm   We will plant a RiverBirch Tree in memory of Wangari Maathai, Kenyan woman who planted trees all thru Kenya and was given the Nobel Peace Laureate honor.  She died in 2011 but her spirit and work live on!  (we will gather at 3:30 near Brownson Hall , on the Quad side for the planting)  

We are honored to have with us Prof. Daniel Nanjira who knew her and will speak.

7:30pm   We will show the film, Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai”  East Library, Reid Castle.

April 28 Benefit to Support Clearwater’s Indian Point Campaign

sloop Indian Point_sliderClearwater and The Connie Hogarth Center for Social Action will host a benefit to support Clearwater’s Indian Point Campaign, Sunday, April 28, from 3:00-6:00 PM at Reid Castle at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
Clearwater has been at the forefront of the fight to close Indian Point to prevent the relicensing of outdated facility. Since its inception 15 years ago, the Connie Hogarth Center for Social Action has also actively opposed Indian Point and called for its closure. This intimate gathering will bring together many influential individuals from a constituency that is building community momentum to see the Indian Point nuclear facility permanently closed.
Special honored guests include New York Assembly Member, Ellen Jaffee, and former Westchester County Executive, Andrew Spano.
The event will also feature musical performances by singer-songwriter and pop folk artist, Dar Williams; bluesman, Guy Davis; and Hudson Valley songstress, Linda Richards.
The event will also feature a reception and silent auction that includes a week at a villa in Italy, fine wine,  a Peter Max print and other fine art and photography, including a signed print of the artwork for the album, River of Dreams, signed by Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley.

All proceeds will go to support Clearwater’s legal fees, community outreach efforts, and public policy campaign to close the aged, leaking, outdated nuclear reactors located at Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in Buchanan, NY.
